Rokuyosha is two separate coffee rooms on Kawaramachi-dori just south of Sanjo. The basement opened in 1950 and the ground floor 15 years later, and the basement's green tiles are said to come from a Kiyomizu-ware tile shop. The basement has roasted its own beans since the early 1980s, serving coffee by day and turning into a bar at 17:00.
Insider tip
The handmade doughnuts come out at 12:00 and aren't sold to take away. The ground floor is a smoking room but asks you not to smoke during the morning service, 8:30 to 12:00, and the basement is non-smoking. The two rooms sell different beans.
