Kamiji Kakimoto is a paper shop whose roots go back to 1716, when the family ran a bamboo business on Teramachi at Nijo. It turned to paper in 1845 and has followed it from washi to Western paper and paper goods. While a new building goes up on its Teramachi site, the shop trades from a temporary store on Fuyacho-dori just north of Sanjo.

Kawaramachi is downtown Kyoto, the shopping streets round the Shijo-Kawaramachi crossing.
