About Roam Kyoto
What's on in Kyoto,
all on one map
Roam Kyoto puts the city's festivals, markets, exhibitions and temple events on one map, for the dates you're here, along with the places worth a visit.
Who's behind it
Roam Kyoto was founded by Daniel, who has lived in Canada, Mexico, Spain, Portugal, Japan, France, Brazil, Paraguay, Peru and Vietnam, and has travelled to many more countries. In Japan that included a while in Kyoto, near Shijo-Omiya station. These days he splits his time between Tokyo and Montreal, and he also runs Roam Tokyo.
He's a very social person, and wherever he lives or visits he goes looking for the best events and places in town. Roam Kyoto does that looking for Kyoto and puts what it finds in one place.
What's on the site
Start with the map. Set your dates and it shows what's on while you're here, alongside the places worth a visit, each pin with its nearest station, a cost band, how long to allow and when to go.
Around the map sit neighbourhood guides for the areas you might stay in, and seasonal collections like autumn colour and rainy days for when the timing shapes your trip.
By the numbers
There's also an events calendar for festivals, markets and exhibitions.
A sister site
Roam Kyoto is a sister site of Roam Tokyo, which covers Tokyo the same way, with a map, neighbourhood guides and an events calendar. If your trip takes in both cities, you'll find the same layout on each.
How the site is made
Photos are Creative Commons photos of the actual place, from Flickr and Wikimedia Commons, credited to the photographer with the licence on every page that shows them. A place without a suitable photo simply doesn't have one.
When something's wrong (a closed temple, a changed price, a moved bus stop), a note to hello@roamcitymaps.com gets it fixed.
Hotel recommendations
When you book a hotel through Roam Kyoto, the site may earn a small commission through Stay22. It doesn't change what's on the map or which areas the guides suggest.
Corrections and questions
If a place has closed, a price is off or a bus or train detail has changed, email hello@roamcitymaps.com. Questions about neighbourhoods, timing or anything the guides don't cover are welcome too.
