MoMAK is the national museum of 20th-century art and crafts, with a lean toward Kyoto and Kansai artists such as the Kyoto school of Japanese-style painting. Fumihiko Maki designed its granite-gridded building, which opened in 1986, and the collection holds 425 works by the potter Kawai Kanjiro.
Insider tip
The Collection Gallery costs ¥1,000 and changes about five times a year. Special exhibitions cost more and include the Collection Gallery. On Fridays it stays open until 20:00.

About 350 pieces trace contemporary jewellery in postwar Japan, from the Japan Jewellery Designers Association's founding in 1964 to artists working now, including works from Germany shown here for the first time in about 50 years.
